Zonamerica distinguishes itself as a business park for its technological infrastructure. A permanent staff of professionals supervises one of the largest data centers in Uruguay, providing world class IT services and running a telecommunications infrastructure that is an example in Latin America.

In an interview with Rodolfo Fernández, Zonamerica’s Technology manager, we learned more about the different aspects that distinguish the company’s services.

1) Which are the most distinguished technological components Zonamerica offers its clients?

Zonamerica’s infrastructure is characterized by its robustness. We have made an effort to obtain redundant access channels and the highest logical and physical security standards. Our statistics show that in 2003 we had 99.999% Internet access availability. This record was achieved because of strategic alliances with suppliers such as Antel and Movicom BellSouth.
With power supply that is also redundant and disaster recovery systems, we can assure our clients the continuity if their operations despite any unpredictable event.

2) What tendencies do you see in the IT requirements of multinational companies?

Basically the requirements of multinational companies are cutting costs in telecommunications and data transmission. At the same time, these companies’ policies target an improvement in quality and stability of their technological structure. That has motivated us to develop efficient voice and data convergence solutions with high technology concentration.

3) What is Zonameirca relationship with the big software and technology suppliers?

With Microsoft, we have inaugurated a test lab for .NET technology development. This lab has HP and Intel servers, as well as the support of engineers form Microsoft and ARTech. At the same time, we have an agreement with IBM to provide Help Desk, and we have recently confirmed an agreement to provide on demand services for image processing, storage and CPU back up.

4) What are the latest technologies available in Zonamerica?

Zonamerica now has wireless technology in 80% of the Park, which allows us to offer our clients mobility and access to their own Internet networks.
We have added to the existing security systems (smoke detection, access control, elevated floors, alarms) video camera surveillance, which allows record storage in Zonamerica servers to be consulted in real time from any PC with Internet access.
