New Biotechnology Endeavor In Zonamerica

Nidetec, a vegetable biotechnology endeavor, set up its operations center in Zonamerica’s BioTec Plaza. The company, which is a joint venture with Tecnoplant (Argentina), is a member of the Sidus Group and, along with Tecnovital (Argentina) and Vitalberry Marketing (Chile), part of the blueberry export chain for the US and Europe.

Core Business: Blueberry Production

Nidetec deals with the vertical integration of the entire blueberry production chain, from the production of high quality genetic and sanitary plants, to plantation and crop management, to packaging and commercialization. The company also provides technical advice for the entire process.
The Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) is a native North American bush that grows wild in conifer woods. For centuries, inhabitants of the northern hemisphere gathered the berries directly from the plants. A strong tradition developed of consuming this fruit in the most varied recipes. To this day, the majority of blueberry production comes from wild plants. The blueberry has high nutritional value, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standardization, and is low or free of fats and sodium, low in cholesterol, and high in fibers and vitamin C.

The Blueberry Business in Uruguay:

Apt for Production.
The natural conditions in Uruguay allow a high quality crop to grow counter-season to the Northern Hemisphere. Our country has favorable weather and soil conditions, crops free of diseases and plagues, and readily available technology.

Growing Demand.
Nidetec attracts business by providing products during the season when the Northern Hemisphere is unable to produce and by offering products to a market with:

• High seasonality for fresh consumption
• Stable high end demand all year round
• Rising prices due to shortage of product from October to April
• High return investment

Guaranteed Commercialization.
In addition, by exporting together with Chilean and Argentine products, we are assured secure and fair trade under the best possible conditions, without suffering the initial effects of market entrance.

Nidetec at Zonamerica’s BiotecPlaza.

Nidetec’s General Manager, Maximiliano Mazzolla, explained that the selection process for the production center’s new location was based on company-conducted feasibility studies. The human resources, the tradition in terms of agricultural issues, and the services BioTec Plaza offers, as well as the possibility to access one of the business communities with the highest potential in Latin America, were crucial factors in the company’s decision.
