Nidetec,
a vegetable biotechnology endeavor, set up its operations
center in Zonamerica’s BioTec Plaza. The company, which
is a joint venture with Tecnoplant (Argentina), is a member
of the Sidus Group and, along with Tecnovital (Argentina)
and Vitalberry Marketing (Chile), part of the blueberry export
chain for the US and Europe.
Core
Business: Blueberry Production
Nidetec deals with the vertical integration of the entire
blueberry production chain, from the production of high quality
genetic and sanitary plants, to plantation and crop management,
to packaging and commercialization. The company also provides
technical advice for the entire process.
The Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) is a native North American
bush that grows wild in conifer woods. For centuries, inhabitants
of the northern hemisphere gathered the berries directly from
the plants. A strong tradition developed of consuming this
fruit in the most varied recipes. To this day, the majority
of blueberry production comes from wild plants. The blueberry
has high nutritional value, according to the United States
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standardization, and is
low or free of fats and sodium, low in cholesterol, and high
in fibers and vitamin C.

at Zonamerica’s BiotecPlaza.
Nidetec’s
General Manager, Maximiliano Mazzolla, explained that the
selection process for the production center’s new location
was based on company-conducted feasibility studies. The human
resources, the tradition in terms of agricultural issues,
and the services BioTec Plaza offers, as well as the possibility
to access one of the business communities with the highest
potential in Latin America, were crucial factors in the company’s
decision.
